Angelus Duplex

Located in the heart of Midtown Memphis, this 3,600sf duplex infills a residential street facing big box stores such as a grocery and home depot. The simple, yet impactful plan provides two units at 1,600 sf. each containing a generous zoned dining, living, and kitchen space on the ground floor and three bedrooms on the second. At the front a recessed entry is shaded by plate steel canopies and units are fronted by an elevated patio space. The rear entry and patios are shaded by the building overhang.

The primary goal of this project was to provide an affordable, contemporary building that is efficient, fits in with the context of the street, and constructed with quality and sustainable building systems. In addition, the teams development goals centered around providing missing middle housing and “multi-family” rental property suitable for families. The ground floor is clad in masonry and the second in vertically oriented composite siding. Cast in place concrete walls articulate patio areas and a planter at the entry.
