About the Office

The Office of Basic Architecture LLC (ooba) was founded in 2022 by two friends – Peter Warren and Will Randolph - with a shared ethos and 35+ years of combined experience. At ooba “basic” is a guiding principle, and a cornerstone of our design and client interactions. We seek to elevate the basic rather than follow ever-changing trends.  We believe that basic is timeless, practical, and beautiful.

Just as geometry is comprised of the basic elements of point, line, and plane - all architecture, whether built centuries ago or a century from now, is comprised of basic elements. Foundations, walls, windows, doors, and roof contend with site context, weather, and detailing constraints. At ooba, we believe that architecture can be rooted in tradition, but forward-looking. We believe that quality materials, including traditional materials, should be thoughtfully composed with modern relevance resulting in materially rich and durable buildings.

From our office in the heart of midtown Memphis, ooba hopes to make a positive impact on our city though sensitive design, thoughtful urbanism, and practical sustainability.  Both partners have played roles in shaping our city over the past decade through projects ranging from downtown urban infill, cultural buildings, adaptive re-use, and medical offices, to a broad range of single and multifamily residential projects.  As a two-person firm, we are positioned to efficiently deliver services across many scales and budgets. We strive to be approachable, transparent, and inclusive throughout the process.
